Hooray, it's almost holiday time again. Whoop Whoop! After a shockingly long and stressful semester, I can finally start to unwind and concentrate on the upcoming travels. I still have to get my grades in and go to a couple more meetings, but I'm certainly getting into holiday mode. I just re-read some of my old blogs. I'm so glad I keep them. Lovely memories come flooding back. So, here's another one: joblogsinasia2013.blogspot.com
I'm excited about 5 weeks away, taking in 4 countries, 8 hotels, 7 flights, at least 2 long bus rides and 2 boat rides.
1-5 August: Hong Kong
5-7 August Bangkok, Thailand
7-11 August Penang, Malaysia
11-13 August Bangkok, Thailand
13-20 August Koh Chang, Thailand
20-27 August Bangkok
27 - 29 August Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar (Burma)
29 August - 5 September, Bangkok, Thailand
Phew! Not quite sure how/when/why it got so complex, but it was fun to plan! It's a trip worthy of a China wedding anniversary (20 years). We are milking this fact for possible upgrades and freebees. We have been to Hong Kong a couple of times before, but it's always fun. I have to do some bank business while I'm there. Bangkok is like a second home and it wouldn't feel right to not be there in summer. I haven't been to Penang since 1992 when I was backpacking alone on my way back from Australia. I carried a backpack, stayed in a 7-dollar-a-night hostel and could only afford to eat cheap street food. This time we'll be staying somewhere nice, but we'll still have backpacks and eat cheap street food. It's David's first time in Penang (we were last in Malaysia in 2005). He's going to love it. We were in Koh Chang last summer and absolutely loved it. It's such a beautiful island. We were tempted to even go to the same resort, but we are trying somewhere new this year. We also squeezed in a last minute quick hop to Burma. New country for us. We hope to go back later with Kevin and Dawn and see more, but we'll just be in the capital for this trip.
Am I working while I'm away? Of course! I'm editing a journal and co-editing a book. I'm also trying to get a couple of papers finished. Let's see how I do! The journal has to be published by September, but I have a bit longer for the other things.
