2 nights in Silom, Bangkok

Where was I? Ah yes, Penang. After a wonderful stay filled with street life, interesting buildings and culinary delights, we headed back to Thailand. It's only a 1 hour 40 minute flight. Easy peasy hop with cheapo airline Air Asia ("now everyone can fly").

This time we had 2 nights and had booked the Dusit Thani Hotel in Silom. We have stayed there before. It's in older hotel, but quite classy. You get the sense that it thinks it doesn't have to try hard because it's the Dusit! Meanwhile, all these new boutique hotels are really tripping over themselves to make their mark. Hotel Muse (where we stayed last time) has emailed us twice for feedback. We had nothing but positive feedback for them. Their place is amazing. They are hosting a Great Gatsby night some time this month, maybe we'll go. One of the best things about the Dusit is the location. You can take the Skytrain or BTS from right outside so you don't have to deal with Bangkok taxis. Silom is also a nice area. The Silom Complex has reopened and is a great addition to the neighbourhood. There's also a decent Irish pub (O'Reilly's) with good live music nearby and.. the infamous Patpong Market. I think everyone's heard of Patpong? Cheap market, copy designer good and grumpy sales staff. Oh, there are also the pingpong shows. Yeah. Google it. It's not going on my blog. We just had a quick look round the market. I am always interested in the Thai take on different products. My favourite this time was an Angry Birds t-shirt - nothing new there, but the angry bird was riding a tuktuk!

This dish is so spicy that it makes me cry every time...but I still crave it and go back for more. This is the Silom Complex branch of the fabulous Ros Niyom noodle house. I'm salivating thinking about this dish.

Coffee stop while we watch the torrential tropical rain through the window
Street food condiments
Chicken rice, Thai street style
Original crisp flavours only found in Thailand
