E&O Hotel Penang

I have been checking out the Eastern & Oriental Hotel online for years. It's a cracker with loads of history. It was established in 1885 by the Sarkies brothers - the guys who did Raffles in Singapore and the Strand in Rangoon. I love staying in heritage hotels and this one hasn't disappointed. Our suite is massive with some original furniture and fixtures. It has been properly modernised though and has a pool, wifi and air conditioning. Famous guests have included Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Noel Coward, Rudyard Kipling, Somerset Maugham and Hermann Hesse. I love the wood, brass and marble; the size of the bathtub' the "his 'n hers" sinks; and the sound of the sea. I'm so lucky to be staying here. They even do afternoon tea in a room called "1885". I have to try it.

View from our bedroom window (that there is the Andaman Sea!)
