I had the great idea of having afternoon tea at the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong. They don't take bookings, so we just turned up on Saturday afternoon expecting to wait a bit for a table. I don't mind waiting a bit, but we would have been waiting for at least 2 hours. No way. Not trying that again.
I was thrilled to find that the E&O did afternoon teas in their lovely 1885 tea room. The good news was that although they were busy, we didn't have to queue. It was a very civilized affair; classical music, well-dressed cliental and a good selection of treats. I gave it 9.5 out of ten. It lost points for limited tea selection (no Ceylon B.O.P. Shocker.) and unnatural jam colour. It made up for it with fresh, warm scones, lovely china and silverware, and original cakes.
